Pictured here are the oversized mandibles, head, thorax and just a bit of the abdomen.
The name is derived from the large and distinctive mandibles found on the males of most species, which resemble the antlers of Stags! They use their jaws to wrestle each other for favored mating sites in a manner that parallels the way stag’s fight over females.
